Retakes
Remove retakes automatically, by your script
Most retake removal is a tool guessing which repeated phrase to drop. honmay has your script, so it doesn't have to guess: it checks every take against what you meant to say and keeps the cleanest one for each paragraph.

Two ways to find a retake
Repeat detection
Works from the transcript alone
- Looks for phrases you said twice and keeps the last one
- Can't tell a retake from a point you repeated on purpose
- Doesn't know a line was skipped, because it never saw the line
- Usually leaves you to check every cut
Script matching
What honmay does
- Knows every word you meant to say, in order
- Scores each take on how much of each paragraph it covers
- Catches skipped words, restarts and long pauses, and names them
- Same script and same takes give the same edit, every time
Every pick comes with a reason
Review lists each paragraph with its take and one of three results. The reason is written in your script's words, so you can judge it without watching the footage.
- CleanEvery word of the script, nothing extra.
- CleanSkipped 1 of 9 words
- CheckRestarted at “and wrote down”
- CheckLong pause (2.1 s)
- No takeNo take covers this paragraph
What was heard · Take 5
CleanSo we watched twelve clinics sign up and wrote down every question they asked. Almost all of them came down to two things: when they open, and who works when.
Struck through: not heard. Faint: said, but not in the script.
Covers 100% of the paragraph
Kept for paragraph 4. Every word of the script, nothing extra.
You stay in charge
Review opens on the paragraphs that need a look; the ones that matched the script stay folded. Press 1 to 9 to use another take, play any of them with Space, or press Record Paragraph Again and the Studio opens on that paragraph. Nothing is ever deleted: takes are only added.
Tell it how you read
Choose Word for word when every word matters, Close to the script (the default) when small slips are fine, or In my own words when you paraphrase. In your own words, captions use what you actually said.
Where it fits among other tools
Descript's Remove Retakes and the AutoCut Repeat plugin for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve look for repeats in a transcript. DaVinci Resolve Studio's IntelliScript matches clips to a script inside a professional editor. honmay is the one that also gives you the prompter and the recording, explains each pick, and hands you finished files: every hook and call to action, every format, captions included.
Questions
About retakes
How do I remove retakes automatically?
In honmay you don't remove them by hand at all. Paste your script, record as many takes as you need, and each paragraph keeps its cleanest take. Review shows which take it kept and why; export when it looks right.
Does it work on footage I already recorded?
No. honmay edits the takes it records against the script it prompted, because that is what makes the match reliable.
What if I go off script?
Pick Close to the script or In my own words. honmay still finds the best take of each paragraph; how strict it is depends on the mode.
