Teleprompter
Voice-activated teleprompter for Mac
honmay's prompter listens while you read and scrolls with your voice, word by word, right under your camera. It never races ahead, it waits when you go off script, and it records every take, so the editing is done by the time you stop.

It follows you, not a timer
A timed prompter makes you read at its speed. Slow down to land a point and it runs away; speed up and you're waiting for it. honmay listens instead: Apple's speech engine, running on your Mac, hears each word, and the current word is lit in yellow and underlined on a fixed reading line near the top of the panel.
Pause to breathe and the text pauses. Read faster and it keeps up. The words you've already said fade back, so your eyes always land on the next one.
It waits when you go off script
Voice prompters are judged by what they do when you say something that isn't written down. Most freeze silently or jump ahead. honmay holds on the next words and says so: the strip under the text reads “Holding — say ‘and wrote down’ to continue”. Say them and it carries on.
Flub a sentence and press ⌘⇧R: the prompter goes back to the start of that sentence and a new take begins. The earlier take is kept, in case it was better than you thought.
Where your eyes should be
Viewers read a glance of more than a few degrees as reading. So the prompter is a narrow column right under the camera, five to eight words a line, sized for how far you sit: Desk 32 pt, Standing 44 pt, Far 64 pt, or your own size.
It works with the built-in camera of a MacBook or iMac, an external webcam, or your iPhone through Continuity Camera. A three-second countdown starts each take, and “Hide me while recording” dims your own picture so you look at the lens, not at yourself.
Then the takes edit themselves
This is where honmay stops being just a prompter. Every take is checked against your script as soon as you stop. Each paragraph keeps its cleanest take, the cuts land in the pauses between words, and Review tells you why it picked each one. You export a finished MP4 with captions, in every format you need.
Limits, stated plainly
- macOS 26 or later.
- Speech recognition covers the 45 locales Apple's on-device engine supports on macOS 26, including English, Spanish, French and German. Lithuanian isn't one of them yet: the prompter and recording work in Lithuanian, and voice-following turns on when Apple adds it.
- No mirrored text for beam-splitter rigs yet.
- No iPhone app yet; your iPhone can be the camera through Continuity Camera.
Questions
About voice-following
What is a voice-activated teleprompter?
A teleprompter that listens to you read and scrolls to the word you're on, instead of scrolling at a fixed speed. honmay does this on your Mac, and also records each take and edits them together.
Does it work offline?
Recognition runs on your Mac with Apple's on-device speech engine, and nothing is uploaded. macOS may download the language model for your language the first time you use it.
Can I use an external camera or my iPhone?
Yes. Any camera your Mac sees works, including an iPhone through Continuity Camera. The prompter stays under the top of the screen, near the built-in camera.
Is it free?
The download is free and every feature works, including the voice-following prompter. Free exports are 720p with a small watermark; Pro removes it.
